Cino Zucchi, the curator of the Italian Pavilion, invited Studio Milani to participate in the 14th Venice Biennale with the “La Balena” Kindergarten project..
An installation was created inside the Italian Pavilion at the 2014 Architecture Biennale that reconstructed an “Italian landscape” through a sequence of large-format images. These images represent a selected number of contemporary projects “inserted” into very specific or particularly delicate contexts.
The idea was not to analytically describe the complexities of each project but rather to perceive the relationship with a specific context through a single image.
This somewhat radical selection concentrated on projects featuring varying scales and methods – that were not necessarily “mimetic” – within a strongly sedimented structure.
The images were then mounted in illuminated lightboxes in a vast assortment of sizes and proportions to compose a contemporary landscape
